Style.com Editors’ Top Resort Picks for Day and Night

Top Resort Picks for Day and Night

In a season that presents everything from festival-ready bikinis to fur coats, Resort can be a behemoth to suss through and stomach. While we’ve categorized the trends, the inspirations, and the tips to take away now, it’s worth noting the looks from Resort that are likely to fly off the racks. Isn’t that the point of the season, anyway? To hold over hungry shoppers while Fall’s knits sell out and Spring’s slip dresses have yet to arrive? In the spirit of commercialism, Style.com’s editors hand-selected the 20 looks—one for day and one for evening—we’re declaring splurge-worthy. Find our editors’ picks in the slideshow above.

"The day/night distinction doesn't apply to my two favorite looks from Resort, and that's part of their appeal, I suppose. Joseph Altuzarra's chevron-detail T-shirt gown could go both ways: weekend casual with flip-flops or black-tie with the right accessories. Same goes for Alber Elbaz's Le Smoking for Lanvin. I love wearing a tuxedo to fancy fashion events, but the softly draped pants and silk tee have real Monday-through-Friday appeal."

"Veronique Branquinho's all black-or-white, all maxi-length collection sent me into a swoon: I walked out of my appointment with Branquinho convinced I wanted to spend the rest of my life wearing frocks floor-sweeping and the color of new-fallen snow, like this ribbon-strapped silk sundress.

"There were two things I badly wanted to own straight off the runway at Arthur Arbesser's special Pitti Uomo show: One was one of Arbesser's awkwardly cropped wigs, and the other was this slinky, compact knit dress, in a pattern inspired by Ettore Sottsass and the Memphis Design Studio."

"There's something decidedly '70s about an astrakhan coat, though Alessandro Michele undercut the bohemian feel of the style on this Gucci number thanks to some fur-trimmed, bracelet-length sleeves and a shocking pink color worthy of Schiaparelli. In my mind, it goes with a pair of dark-wash jeans and a silk blouse for day; for evening, I'd like to unbutton it to reveal this Marni look perfectly suited to wallflowers with a wild bend."

"I love suiting, though admittedly my take on it is more often than not just a band tee and trousers. I can't help but think that this Christopher Kane suit would go smashingly with my vintage Roxy Music shirt. For evening, the glitz factor puts me off most options; when I saw this number come out at Vuitton's Palm Springs show, my heart just about stopped. But let's be honest: I'd take it for a spin day or night."
