Blake Lively launched her brand Preserve last year, only to shut it down now.
Saying her magazine, website and hand-made and one-of-a-kind products are not “making a difference in people’s lives, whether superficially or in a meaningful way. And that’s the whole reason I started this company.” Lively will officially turn off the site October 9.
However, her intentions were honorable, with the 28-year-old wife to Ryan Reynolds writing a letter from the editor listed on the website promising Preserve “is part magazine, part e-commerce hub, part philanthropic endeavor and above all, a place to showcase the power of imagination, ingenuity, quality, and people.”
Not exactly noting what she feel failed, Lively commended her staff. “We have an incredible team of people who do beautiful work, but we launched the site before it was ready, and it never caught up to its original mission,” said Lively to Vogue.
Priding herself on her homemaking skills, calling Martha Stewart her idol, Lively promoted Preserve products ranging from food to handbags with a little of everything in between. But for some reason it just didn’t happen as planned. “As soon as the site launched, it had its detractors – from those saying it was much more dark and gloomy than they had expected from the sparkly blonde actress, to some asking if she was copying Gwyneth Paltrow or Jessica Alba,” reported Vogue.
“Fortunately, Lively is closely acquainted with the media’s highs and lows, and knows just what to expect now,” added the magazine. Also known for her role in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and The Green Lantern, were she met and later married star Reynolds, Lively’s blonde locks and contagious smile have given her honest and respected fame, something she is not willing to give up.
“You know what? I haven’t created something that is as true and impactful as I know it can and will be. And I’m not going to continue to chase my tail and continue to put a product out there that we, as a team, are not proud of,” said Lively.
According to the Age of Adaline star, who got her start on Gossip Girl, trying to preserve what is good was a bit more than she imagined it would be, saying “it’s hard to build a brand when you’re running full steam ahead – how do you catch up?”
You don’t, rather you shut it down and start again which is exactly what Lively is doing. “You know what, I’m going to give myself one more shot at this, and I really have to do it as well as I can do it this time. And that is the only thing that will impact people. And that’s what I’m doing. And I’m totally terrified out of my mind!”
The Teen Choice Award winner will not let fear keep her from beginning again. Not sharing even a little bit about what is to come, Lively is leaving it up to her fans imaginations to what she is whipping up for the future.
