Calling her new shoe line “dope,” Zendaya’s collection is absolutely just that.
Starting out as a Macy’s and Old Navy model, the 18-year-old Disney star and singer of the hit song “Replay” is now making shoes rather than modeling them. Naming the line Daya after herself, a childhood nickname she was called by loved ones, Zendaya is getting a little help from her stylist, Law Roach.
“Together, the duo created a line of sky-high heels, fringed flats, summery sandals and sporty wedge sneakers, which will range in prices from $125 to $175, inspired by the star’s personal red-carpet style and the women in her life,” reports PEOPLE.
Saying she was “inspired by everyday women,” she tells PEOPLE of how she interviewed her niece and sister, a college student and working mother, respectively, “how do they find stuff, how much would they pay for a good shoe and what they are looking for [in a shoe]?”
“The kind of women we’re targeting are real women [who] want a good shoe they can wear to their job interviews, but still be stylish and not break the bank,” said Zendaya. “But it’s not like that typical look for less. No, these are dope shoes and you don’t have to spend three years trying to buy them.”
Working with Camp Google, recently kicking off “Music Week,” Zendaya and Taylor Swift, who she worked with on “Bad Blood” posed for the camera, with the new star speaking briefly on the veteran diva. Meeting over text, Swift is “really a sweetheart,” she said, adding that Swift has “every reason in the world not to be a nice person, you know what I’m saying?
“It’s cool to see her remain and still be that. She treats everyone like they’ve been friends forever,” she said. “It just felt really relaxed, chill and everybody got to be a part of it in a big way, so I was really lucky to be a part of it. It was a great experience for sure.”
Also a dancer, Zendaya’s leanness and long legs make her a perfect figure for fashion. After spotting her on the street, Vogue said the starlet was “on the street keeping things fresh and youthful but with a polished twist.”
“The trick to achieving this balance is through the right fit, cut, and accessories,” reports the high fashion magazine. “Zendaya’s criss-cross bandeau top of her Solace London one-piece provides interesting geometry and hints at skin, while high-waisted, flared culotte-styled pants provide a voluminous counterpoint and elegant finish.”
When asked what was her favorite pair of shoes from the line, the star said it would be “impossible” to decide. “I will not answer that question! But I will say that every shoe is definitely infused with [our aesthetic],” said Zendaya. “I’m not a big fan of flats, I’ve never been a big fan of sandals, and so it was kind of like, ‘How do I make a version that I would wear on the red carpet, that I think is chic?’ ”
